When Should I Worry About My Baby’s Movements?
It can be difficult to know if your baby is moving the same way as other babies their age. Babies grow and learn in their own time, but sometimes there are signs (called “red flags”) that mean you need to speak to a professional for advice.
It’s not always helpful to compare one baby to another. Some things, like being born early, an illness, medical condition or an injury can affect your baby’s development. If your baby has had any of these, you can talk to your GP, health visitor, or specialist about what to expect.
In the next section we look at how babies move and develop, and highlight “red flags.” If something doesn’t feel right about how your baby moves, even if you’re not sure, talk to your health visitor or GP. It’s always best to check.

Remember, if your baby was born prematurely then you will need to use their corrected age. This is their actual age minus the number of weeks they were born early. You only need to do this if your baby was more than 3 weeks early. For more information about development of a preterm baby visit Bliss.
